Colter Reed One-Year-Old

My little boy is one already! This past year has gone by too quickly, but I've tried to take lots of pictures. Colter is such a joy to have in our home. He is so good-natured and as a newborn was always so content and patiently waited when it came to feeding time. With two active girls requiring my attention, he seemed to understand and knew I would eventually get to him. These days he's becoming more and more active and interested in everything around him and isn't so content to just sit.

He started laughing at 2 months and hasn't stopped since. He loves to laugh! And we love to hear him laugh! Naturally, Adam is the best at getting him going. I just can't ever get the video camera out in time to capture it before Colter starts getting tired. He's a happy boy and also great at being silly and is turning into quite the show-off. He loves the attention he gets from everyone (as long as the attention from his sisters comes from a safe distance away).

Colter isn't a big kid, we still have him rear-facing in his infant car seat. At his one-year check-up he weighed 19 lbs 3 oz. and was 28.1 inches long. The most important thing is that he is healthy. He eats well. I nursed him until he was 11 months and then gave him pumped breast milk and formula for the last month. He loves baby cereal, strawberry yogurt, and just about any kind of vegetable. He also really likes little puffs and goldfish. He's not crazy about fruit and especially hates bananas. He ate them at first, then decided, all of a sudden, he didn't like them. He pulls the most horrible faces every time we try to feed them to him. It's hilarious.

Our little man makes so many sounds, some I can't even imitate, and "talks" to us all the time. I wish I could understand because his tone and facial expressions indicate he's very excited about whatever it is he wishes to tell us. I think he's just excited about life and all the things he's learning and discovering. He points to everything. He has said a few words like "mama", "dada", and he said "Jesus" once. He will point to a picture of Jesus we have in our kitchen when asked "Where's Jesus?". His best word is "uh-oh". He uses that one a lot when he's in his high chair and food or a toy falls, or is dropped, on the ground. He waves "bye-bye" and is learning how to blow kisses. He likes to sing as well, or tries to. One of the cutest things Colter does is clap anytime any song is sung.

Our little boy is so sweet. He'll give a hug but doesn't like to cuddle for very long, unless it's in the middle of the night and he just needs to be rocked back to sleep. Life doesn't get much better than snuggling up with your warm and sleepy baby in the rocking chair, their soft hair against your cheek. That's worth getting up at 2 AM for. Colter has a sweet side and an all-boy side too. It's funny to see some of the differences of having a boy after two very girly girls. Colter loves anything with wheels and already knows a car goes "vroom vroom". He's also really into climbing. He crawls all over the floor but also climbs the stairs, the railing, boxes, anything.

Milestones for Colter during his first year include...
smiled - 1 month
lifted head while on stomach - 1 month
laughed - 2 months
slept through the night - 2 months
turning over from front to back - 5 months
began eating solid foods - 6 months
turning over from back to front - 6 1/2 months
sat up alone - 7 months
pulled to a stand - 7 months
first tooth - 7 1/2 months
crawled - 8 months
climbed stairs - 9 months

We love our little monkey!

Happy FIRST Birthday, Colter!

A year ago today, I was at the hospital hoping they wouldn't send me home for a second time. I had been in labor for a two days, still trying to get my September baby. Adam shares March with the girls, so I wanted to share September with our little boy. I had been sent home from the hospital the day before, but this time I had a slight fever and so they broke my water. Hallelujah! This baby was coming today! Contractions started coming harder and faster and trying to cope minus the epideral was harder than with Aspen or Bentley. After a little over three hours it was time to push and in less than a minute, Colter Reed was born to our family!

Thanks for the outfit, Kristin!

Colter started his big day with a happy birthday song from his Mom, Dad, and sisters. He then moved on to playing with the balloons we left all around the floor.

Colter loves the bath. So much, in fact, that he always has a fit when it's time to get out. I thought he might like a no-time-limit-bath. He played and played and even washed the bath for me. I don't think he was in there more than 30 minutes, but it was long enough for him, which was the goal.

Colter enjoyed his first donut for his birthday breakfast while watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I probably should have waited until after he had his glazed donut to give him a bath. Oh well. It's always so fun to watch your kids discover something new. I'm pretty sure he liked it. Liked that it was sticky, liked that it was flaky, liked that it was SWEET! (Once I cut it up for him and he could get his mouth around it.)

Look at those chubby little fingers

We wanted to do something that Colter would enjoy and decided to take him to Chuck E Cheese's. What kid doesn't love that place- no matter how little they are. He appeared to be entertained, so I think we did good. There was enough going on in that place for his eyes and ears to feast on, and they even had a few rides he could do. (How cute is Aspen kissing Colter's head in the picture with the three of them.) We spent all our money on tokens instead of pizza and ended up with a little more than 500 tickets to spend on Pop Rocks and Magic Tricks. Score! To top it all off Chuck-E-Cheese himself made an appearance! (I love Bentley holding his hand in the picture)

Our Family

We stopped at In N Out on our way home and picked up some burgers for dinner. We ate and had a little family party.

Our birthday boy! (BTW- I made Colter's shirt with the number ONE applique. I can't take credit for the idea, but I think it's so darn cute!)

Happy to have the attention ALL on him

Colter must be thinking: "What the...?"

We know how to party

Present from Grandma and Grandpa Wright

A book, a dolphin, ...

... and clothes

From Aspen and Bentley

Blocks!

Still partying

From Mom and Dad. He really liked the baby on the box.

Hammer Away!

Ready to play

We had cake, but no ice cream - it was so late I don't think anyone minded. Aspen and Bentley helped Colter blow out his candle and as you can see, he thought that was pretty funny.

And, of course, Colter had a great time making a mess with his cake.

Happy FIRST Bithday, Colter! WE LOVE YOU!
