Aspen and Adam posing in front of the white alligator at the Ghost of the Bayou exhibit (you can barely see it in the back just to the left of Adam's hands)
Here's a better picture. If you haven't seen the White Alligator, you have until the end of September when he'll be sent back to New Orleans. I was fascinated to learn that this alligator is 1 of only 10 known living white alligators in the world. In 1987, in a Bayou in Louisiana, a nest of 18 white alligators and 7 normal colored alligators were found. The white alligators aren't albino, they have a rare genetic condition called leucism. They have no pigment in their skin but do in their eyes. In albinos the pigment cells that produce black coloring don't exist or don't work. Leucistic alligators cannot survive in the wild because they can't hide and because they burn too easily. I hope you enjoyed my little report.
We had to take a picture of an elephant because it's Aspen's favorite
Aspen and Adam waiting for the bird show to start. What a cool show! Birds fly right over your head. They fly so close that if you reached up you could touch them, although they tell you not to do that.
